Re: Black Death Challenge

My biggest problem with getting good shots on these tiny targets is my lack of the proper sight inserts. The sight in question is the standard Redfield #83 globe style for my M540XR, but I am not sure if all "globe" inserts will fit. Also, will Anschutz acrylic inserts fit? I have done some looking, and there are sizes listed for most inserts, but I have no clue what I am looking for, and they don't list the compatable sight models. Anybody have any input on shopping for the correct inserts, and what type is best suited for these targets?

These from Brownell's look interesting, and there are different selections for size:  http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=12372&title=GLOBE+SIGHT+INSERTS#specs

As I grew up in the period where scopes were already the boon and these were not popular, I know little to nothing about these sights. Any help in the right direction will be appreciated.

Alan

Re: Black Death Challenge

Well, we finally got a target in to score and it was pretty easy - 50 points and what appears to be a 3x.  Might fine shooting Randy. Randy Allums was shooting his Kimber 82G at 25 yds with iron sights.  It appears his center to center measurement for 5 shots was .249".  Here is a scan of his target:

Re: Black Death Challenge

Nice target Randy.

No, I'm not holding out on you Tom. Between my finger laceration and my recent bad luck with wind and rain, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it : )  I am confident that I can duplicate the ragged 10 shot holes I was getting with the Lapua Signum at 50yds on these BDC targets (same standard aperture sights) if I can get out there when the wind is going steadily 10-25mph. I did go ahead and order a set of sight inserts, hope they fit; but for now I have a scope mounted that Robert H. was gracious enough to sell to me. My remy does in fact shoot better with a couple hundred rounds through her, getting what looks like one hole out of three shots at 50 when I do my part (and no Mr. wind). I know, I know, believe it when you see it.

Happy Holidays everyone!
