First of all, Postal matches are not affiliated with the USPS. It is a form of competition that occurs over a period of time (say 1 month) where individuals (or teams) shoot a specific course of fire at their leasure and turn in their target(s) for score. Postal matches can be local, regional, or national. This has several advantages for the individual: you don't have to show up at a certain time or date; since there is more opportunity to compete, you have a bigger pool of shooters; there is also a little less pressure.
My sole purpose is to promote better marksmanship through competition and to get more interest in the club's shooting activities.
What I propose as the first Postal match for the club is the Black Death Challenge created by John Simeone, choach of Team Top Gun at Ft. Polk, LA. You can go to that site by clicking the link. The rules are explained there though wwe will not be weighting rifles.
I propose three different classes: 25yd for .22 rimfire only with iron sites, 50 yds for .22 rimfire only with any sight, and 100 yds for any rifle, any sight. I see these as a perfect way to get the whole family shooting and competing and a perfect way to have a youngster transition from their first plinker. I would like to start the first match in December and will have some targets printed up and available at the rifle range. I'll also have a mailbox to submit completed targets. There will be NO charge for this match and I will post the results as the month progresses. Right now, this is for bragging rights only.
There are several other types of matches that lend themselves to running as Postal matches. If this works out, we can try some of them. Feel free to comment as this is not locked in concrete. In fact, I just thought that we could also do air rifle at ??? yds if there was any interest.
