 FEBRUARY 2008

RANGE RULE OF THE MONTH:

S3.  The firing line is established by mutual consent of all shooters on a given range.  Never move forward or aft of another shooter on the same range, regardless of the lateral distance.

NEWS

WE ARE HAVING A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE DUMPING THEIR DOGS OFF AND LEAVING THEM AT THE RANGE.  We are not an animal control center.  These dogs go hungry for weeks at a time.  They are a real danger to members and their guest.  Please DO NOT ABANDON your dog on our facility.  If you know of anyone who is doing so please contact one of the Board of Directors.  This could be a huge liability to us should someone get bitten!

OLD BUISNESS

  1. Land acquisition:    Greg Swim is taking care of the land acquisition.  He is hoping to  meet with the gentlemen in March.
  2. We now have 20 new plastic lawn chairs on the range.  10 on the pistol side and 10 on the rifle side.  Lets take care of them so they will last awhile.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Seventeen people showed up on January 31, 2009 for the work day.    They got a lot of work done, filling sand bags, repairing berms and Hogan’s alley.  I commend them all for their hard work and dedication to our club.
  2. The next work day is scheduled on May 30, 2009.
  3. Tom has set up a steel challenge on Bay 3.  Instructions on the proper procedure will be posted at the bay.  This steel challenge is great practice for speed shooting.  Youngsters are welcome to practice as long as a parent is present.  This is a timed event.  The timer will be locked in a box at bay 3.  The combination is the same as the gate.  Please be sure to lock it back up for the next person to use. If we have enough people interested in steel challenges we will try to put together a regular match.

PLEASE!  IF YOU USE THE EQUIPMENT FROM BAY 3 MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT BACK.

  1. The FBI training course will take place March 2, 3, and 4th for qualifications and March 16 thru 27 for competition.  The rifle range will not be open for members on these days.  All other ranges will be open for use.

RANGE IMPROVEMENTS

  1. Covers for the multi-purpose range have been order and should be in place by the end of February.
  2. The skeet range will be seeing some new additions also.  Buildings for the new skeet machines are ordered.
  3. A new falling plate rack is on the way.  Ray Dillon has been so kind and patient keeping our plates welded on the old racks.  Thank you Ray for all the work you do.  You are greatly appreciated!
  4. When warm weather finally arrives we will be ready!

SPECIALTY MATCH

The Jan. specialty match was scheduled for this last Sunday and was to be Cowboy Rifle. Unfortunately only two shooters showed up for the match, so it was cancelled. Thanks to Bob Lynch for being the MD even though the match didn't happen. So the specialty match points remain the same.

The February specialty match will be Bulls eye pistol scheduled for the third Sunday with Bill Stokes as MD. Come on out and support the club! The rules are very liberal and you can shoot most anything you bring. All shooting will at the 25 yd line with a .22 match, Center fire pistol and .45 pistol match. Standing, one hand offhand, slow fire, timed fire and rapid fire for a total of 30 rounds per gun. Slow fire is 10 rounds in 10 minutes, timed fire is 5 rounds in 20 seconds and rapid fire is 5 rounds in 10 seconds. Even revolvers are welcome cause that is how it was started.

SEE YOU THERE!

Still driving from TSGC to Enterprise, Troy, Dothan, or Hartford in less than 3 hours.
