OLD BUSINESS

1.      All Members, remember you can adopt a range to maintain at our club and earn $25 in club work chits for each three months of maintenance.  This is a great way to curb the cost of your yearly fees, get yourself a hat/t-shirt or to pay for that match you want to shoot in.  To sign up for a range, there is a board in the training facility (club house), just put your name in the box.  Also if you sign up you are signing up until you decide not to do it anymore.  There is not a term limit per se`.  If you chose to give up a range, remove your name from the board in the clubhouse to give the opportunity to someone else (please tell someone also).

2.      If you are interested in purchasing TSGC hats or shirts see Norm Stellner at any of the monthly membership meetings.

3.      Lady’s Basic Pistol Courses will be held on March 10, 2012 / June 9, 2012 / September 8, 2012.  Flyers are located in the TSCG training facility for more information.

4.      IMPORTANT!!  When you bring guests to shoot on the range, they must sign a non-liability waiver (located at the Secretary’s desk). These waivers will be kept on file until the new fiscal year.  Leave the signed waiver in the box located near the Secretary’s desk please.

5.      The next Swap Meet will be held on 4 March 2012.  This is a chance for club members to trade or sell items they wish to get rid of in order to make room for more toys, err, equipment.  A rental fee for a table is ten dollars ($10), if you need an additional table the cost is five dollars ($5); the rental fees are a fund raiser for the club.  If you only have one item you want to sell; you can place it on the club table at no cost.  The Swap meet starts at 10am and ends after the club meeting or whenever the last table closes shop.

6.      We are still coordinating a possible Glock sponsored match at the club with Glock USA.  More to follow.

7.      We have some local and not so local sponsors for our club.  Take advantage of what they are offering and support them as they support us.  If you know of a business that would like to sponsor us, let a Board member know.  Some sponsors are:  Velocity Bullets – 7% discount, Missouri Bullet Company – 10% discount, Gunn Ammo—offers dealer prices for club members, Lock-N-Load - $20 transfer fees and discounts on indoor range time.

8.      Jim Widener is hosting an NRA Basic Home Defense course on 18 Feb 2012 in our class room and the 25 yard GP range is reserved for the day.

NEW BUSINESS

1.      A Cowboy Rifle Specialty Match will be held on 19 February on the 25yd GP, 50yd GP and the area between them.  This does close the LEO range for that day.  The match will be shot all off hand with iron sights.  All rifles designed prior to 1900 and in a pistol caliber or .22 rim-fire calibers are eligible.  Period dress is optional but highly encouraged.  Making excuses for missed shots is mandatory and the telling of tall tales is likely.

2.       We have been slowly improving the club house and range amenities by donations and/or purchases.  Be vigilant in the security of our equipment and facilities.  If you use an item from one of the sheds, put it back and secure the shed.  Ensure that the club house and gates are closed and locked if you are the last to leave.  It’s all of ours, let us keep it safe!

3.      Range 10 on the pistol side is completed.  Be aware of the mud hazard until we can get grass to grow on the berms.  Berm repair on the rest of the pistol bays has been approved by the Board with the funds allocated from the general account.  This repair work will begin shortly and will ensure that we operate a safe range for our neighbors in the community.

4.      A small building (donated by a life member) will be going up near the Clay’s Range shortly.

5.      The Board approved the naming of the 100yd rifle range in honor of Rich Herron, a club member who passed away last year of cancer.  He was an avid high power shooter, veteran and an all-around good guy.  Thank you to club member Fred Riley for volunteering to construct a fitting sign.

6.      Board of Director’s Policy letters 12-01 (For profit/not for profit activities) and 12-02 (Membership renewal procedures) will be posted to the website, are active, will be posted on the bulletin board and all members are encouraged to read them.

7.      The FNRA raffle for the S&W Governor was drawn on 30 January and the lucky winner was Eric Baker.  Thanks FNRA and Pawn Express for making this available.

8.      The Board approved new Life Membership rates.  A Life Membership can be purchased for five times the amount of your regular dues.  Example; Annual members - $750.00, LEO - $625.00 and over 65 years of age - $250.00

9.      The club will be hosting an annual Family Day BBQ in October.  Last year’s was great and many old friends and new came on by.  We are looking for a volunteer to head up acquiring a caterer, coordinating sending of invitations and keeping a tally on the number of folks that will be attending for the club.

10.  Butch Bonds is sponsoring an IDPA Safety Officer course on the 11th of March.  You must be a member of IDPA to apply.  The club will be covering the cost of the course; you must cover your IDPA membership fees.  Contact Mr. Bonds for further details.

11.  Candidates from the 1st WOC will be conducting their community project on the 18th of February on the LEO range.  They will be providing clean up and minor maintenance for the improvement of that range.  Thanks goes out to these fine young Americans.

12.  The Board endorsed and the General Membership approved the purchase of the 11.2 acres of land adjacent to the Clays/campground.  The vote was conducted IAW the TSGC By-Laws with a final vote of all members present, of 28 Yeas, 1 Nay and 1 Abstain.

FYI

  1. Reminder again that you can NOT use center fire rifles or armor piercing ammunition on the pistol ranges, specifically, the falling plates range.  This does damage the welds that attach the plates to the rack, making them unusable and causing excessive down time and expense.  We have to keep our equipment functioning so all can enjoy!

  1. PLEASE lock the doors/gates when you leave if you are the last ones out.  If you are not sure, lock them anyway.  There are many mornings that one or both has been found left open.

THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Howdy all.  One month down in 2012 and we have had quite the activity already.  I believe we have surpassed the 500 member mark; we have made vast improvements to the range, and are acquiring additional land to expand.  With the growing numbers of new members, I will not be able to recall everyone by name, so please wear your club ID card at all times while on the range. It is required by the Range Rules by the way.

I wish to address the temporary closure of the Clays range.  Rumors are flying faster than my wife can pull a trigger, and she’s fast!  We identified a potential safety concern and we voluntarily closed the range until the issue can be resolved.  The club has taken steps to resolve the issue and that is that.  I am not concerned with what is floating around the local diner.

I have put out in the past that I would like to see the younger members of the club get more involved in the operation of our facility.  I ask you again to step up and become involved.  Whether you are here for a few years or like me, will be buried here, it is your duty to ensure that our operation is safeguarded and preserved for future generations to enjoy.  Do not be one of those that take and do not give.  The shooting sports that you love now are wonderful and varied.  Don’t you think when your children are grown, that they should enjoy the same opportunity?  Majorly, my request will fall on deaf ears, but if one steps forward there is a continuance.

On the same line of thinking.  I highly encourage you men to get your wives/girlfriends and daughters involved.  The world is no longer a safe place.  I am not “dooms-saying”, but people do not have the respect they once did for the better sex.  I am a firm believer that all women should be able to rely on themselves for defense if needed.  Get them involved.

On a different note, the first Mustang Match and meeting of the Tri-State Regulators was a great success.  We had 11 Cowboys, 2 Lady Gunslingers and a Young Gun participate and all had a great time and were safe doing it.  The Tri-State Regulators are looking forward to more participants in the future.  Even if you do not have equipment, most of us bring extras.  Come on out and relive the Old West!

Lastly, keep the club operating safely and be a good neighbor to the surrounding communities by following the rules and using common sense.

That’s all for now, see you on the range!

R.W.
