News

TSGC hours of operation have been changed to 8:00am to sundown all year long.

Should anyone have any questions regarding receiving your newsletters via e-mail or by snail mail please contact me, Sharon Goding, Secretary/Treasurer, at fiestysharon@aol.com, or you may call me at 334-347-1431.  Please do not call Tom; he will only forward it to me anyway.

MONEY MIZER PAWN AND GUN SHOP will be offering to all Tri-State Gun Club members, wholesale prices plus 20% and sales tax.  You must present your membership card.

Our next work day will be May 17, 2008.  We will start about 8:00 am.  We need as much help as possible.  For every two hours worked you will receive a $5.00 work chit.

There will be no Ladies Tactical Match or this month due to Memorial Day.  The Ladies Tactical Match will resume the third (3rd) Saturday in June at 9:00 a.m.

There will be no IDPA Match this month due to memorial day, but will resume in June.

The Law Enforcement qualification will be over this week.  The Range will be free for everyone’s use for the rest of the year.

Steve McKinney, our new Friends of the NRA Field Representative for Alabama was introduced and given a tour of our facility.  Welcome aboard Steve.

REGULAR CLUB MEETING

There were 25 members present at our April meeting.  We have five (5) new members.

The meeting was called to order at 1600 hours.

President, Bob Lynch, presided

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Club Fund:                                                      $10,567.19

Certificate of Deposit:                                                $18,000.00

Range Fund:                                                   $  1,206.04

NEW BUSINESS:

1.       Land acquisition:    A written proposal for the acquisition of the 11 acres of land next to the range was read.  We are offering $1,000.00 per acre.  Should the offer be accepted the BOD will proceed with the purchasing of the land.  In the event a counter proposal is returned, it will be brought before the general membership for discussion and a vote.

A motion to send the proposal was made and seconded.  A vote was taken:  33 yes,   0 no, 0 abstentions.

2.      Federal/State program grant monies may be available to the club.  The club will enhance its chances of obtaining those grants by documenting the club’s credentials.  One of the key documents required is our 501(c)(3) Federal Income Tax Exemption Certificate.  Greg will confirm the status of the certificate and apply/reapply as required.  501 Exemption will require forwarding a copy of the club’s constitution to the processing authority (IRS).  We can improve our chances of obtaining 501 exemption and follow-up on grant dollars by improving our constitution to show more clearly our community/public relations commitments.  Programs such as hunter education, youth and women’s programs, and our efforts in training and qualification of law enforcement, Fort Rucker and homeland security agencies should be expressed. at least in broad terms, in article 1.  Greg will draft the proposed change and submit it for staffing and approval by the Board and the General Membership.

3.      Jim Edginton has volunteered to head the Women On Target and Youth events this year.  Volunteers have already been recruited.  More information will follow as the time draws near.

4.      Friends of NRA raffle tickets are on sale now for their annual banquet.  You may contact Sue Posey, Pat Finch or myself for your tickets.

5.      It was voted for the club to purchase the remaining tickets for the raffle of a 12 foot by 20 foot (I may have the dimensions wrong) shelter for the American Cancer Society.  We purchased the remaining three books for $15.00.  I think we may have a good chance at winning this shelter as many of us have bought tickets for the club.

6.      It was brought to the attention of the members that many of the law enforcement agencies that use our facilities for practice and qualifications have donated many items to the club.  I would like to thank these agencies for their dedication to our facility.

7.      A proposal was made to purchase a finish mower for the back of the tractor.  Estimate will be obtained and presented at the next membership meeting.

USPSA

The rains came and it didn't look like we'd get the match in this month, but after it slacked off some around 10:30, we were able to start.  Four of the courses were modifications of stage that some of us will shoot at the Area 6 Match next weekend.  I'm sure glad I got the chance to do a little warm up for that match.  I want to thank everyone that helped in the set up and tear down.  Scores will be available tomorrow

Modified Trap

With Brent out of town today we decided to keep it simple and shot the standard 5 station course. The high winds made it even more fun!

LADY TACTICAL SHOOTERS MATCH

Today was our second official Ladies Tactical Shooters match and we had a great turnout of 10 ladies.  We are not having a match in May because of the Memorial Day Weekend, but we will see everybody in June on the 28th at our new starting time of 10 am.  We changed to 10 because of the increasingly warm weather and it is cooler before 12.

IDPA

Today turned out to be a beautiful day for shooting and the rain held off for another day.  We had a good turn-out for the match and John and Grady did not disappoint us with their creative stages.  We had 6 great stages that kept everyone on their toes; from shooting in handcuffs to having the clamshell target in the house.

Specialty Match:

April's specialty match was the Police Qualification ran by Ray Dillon with the line called by Greg Swim.   Next month's specialty match will be Shotgun Trap on May 18th @ 1:00 pm and will be run by Dennis Keplinger.  Once again I would like to say that this is a fund raiser for the Range Fund so challenge your fellow members to come out and shoot and support the club at the same time.
