Tri-State Gun Club Newsletter P. O. Box 231 Daleville, AL 36322-0231
01 June 2008 |
News
TSGC hours of operation have been changed to 8:00am to sundown all year long.
Should anyone have any questions please contact, Sharon Goding, Secretary/Treasurer, at fiestysharon@aol.com, (In the reference line make sure you put Tri-State Gun Club), or you may call me at 334-347-1431, (I am home more after 7pm and before 9am). Please do not call Tom; he will only forward it to me anyway. If you have any news you would like posted in the news letter please let me know.
October is fast approaching and it will be time for club renewals. Please do not forget that this year fees have gone up. Regular club membership is $150.00, Law Enforcement membership is $125.00 and Senior membership is $50.00. Also remember to renew your NRA membership. You save $10.00 by renewing through the club. Please be sure to fill out a membership form when you pay your club fees so I have it on record. Hopefully the new form will be posted on the web-site soon.
I have mailed all of the Range Briefing and Waiver forms out. If you did not get one you can pick one up at the range or e-mail me and I will mail you one. Unfortunately all the letters were in my car when I was hit from behind, and some of them were ruined. I have no way of knowing whose was lost. I am hoping to get these posted on the web-site soon also.
As everyone knows the summer heat is upon us. Please make sure when you are at the range you have plenty of water to drink. It does not take long to become dehydrated in this heat.
We are not getting a great deal of participation in our club matches. This is how the club makes money to maintain the ranges. Please show your support by participating in these matches. It is a lot of fun!
REGULAR CLUB MEETING
There were 34 members present at our April meeting. We have eight (8) new members this month.
The meeting was called to order at 1600 hours.
President, Bob Lynch, presided
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Club Fund: $10,876.19
Certificate of Deposit: $18,000.00
Range Fund: $ 1,296.04
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Land acquisition: We still have not heard from the owner regarding the proposal to purchase the parcel of land next to the range.
2. Tri-State Gun Club will be hosting the Youth Marksmanship Event on October 4, 2008. There should be .22 rifle, various military rifles - .22 target, .223. For the older youths there will be 7.62x39 and .308 and sporting clays. Please mark your calendar and tell all your children and grandchildren.
3. November 1, 2008 is the Women on Target. This is an NRA sponsored event to encourage women to get more involved with shooting activities. Please help spread the word to all the women you know. This is a great event to help get women more informed about guns and guns safety.
4. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department donated to Tri-State Gun Club a four (4) wheeler with trailer and some tin for the roof over the shelter on the police qualification range. THANK YOU COFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.
5. The Friends of the National Rifle Committee are already working for our September 25th Banquet. The tickets cost $25, and the banquet will be catered by PoFolks the same as last year. We have raffle tickets on sale now for our 5 gun drawing. If you win you get your choice of one of the guns. We wanted to give the winner a chance to win a gun he or she is interested in. We have 2 shotguns, 2 rifles and one pistol, so no matter what type of shooting you are interested in we have a gun for you. The tickets are $2.00 each, 3 for $5.00, or 15 for $20.00. You can get tickets from our girl shooters, Cindy, Sharon, Pat, or myself (Susan) or call 347-4039. Please support us in this. The club has again received another grant from the NRA Foundation (Friends of the NRA). This year we are getting another skeet machine and a rabbit machine.
6. Tri-State Gun Club will again sponsor an event at this year’s Alabama Sports Festival. Ray Dillon, Tom Iten, Norm Stellner and Johnny Jackson will depart on Friday, 20 June to set up the three stage USPSA match which will be run on Saturday afternoon. The match will take place at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Training Center, 543 McDow Road, Columbiana, AL 35051. This is one of several shooting events conducted throughout the area and proved very popular last year. Anyone wishing to participate should visit the following website for further information: http://www.alagames.com/index.php?page=sport_shot.

It turned out to be one of those hot, humid days. I think everyone will agree we had some challenging courses. The rifle course was a real DOG because we had to run it on the Rifle Range and rather than not having to move much, we wound up having to run 75 yards. This also made the PPC Standards a real challenge (heart pumping a mile a minute). Hope everyone enjoyed it. Just a reminder, there will be no match for June, July and August due to the heat of the summer months.

There was no match this month due to Memorial Day. Next match will be June 15th. Ladies, see you all there!
Specialty Match:
May's Specialty Match was Modified Trap Shotgun Match ran by Dennis Keplinger. The day was beautiful, but a little windy and the course was three teal, two rabbit, and twenty clays from six positions. It was a difficult course to say the least, especially the last position behind the pine tree. We raised $140.00 for the Range Fund, bringing our total to $980.00 so far this year. Due to a scheduling change the June match will be ICORE Revolver run by Gerald Bonds and held on June 22nd on the Pistol Range. Hunter-Rifle has been moved to July and will be run by Bill Duncan and we have added a J.C. Garand match for September to be run by Jim Edgington.
For this match, we divided the scores into first, second, and third runs and awarded points for each. Congratulations to Bill Stokes for winning the shoot-off and the match and Jim Swift for keeping up with him with 16 birds. Also a "HATS OFF" to Norman who remains the Teal Champion with 3 out of 3 on his first run.
