JUNE 2009 NEWS LETTER

FYI News

             1.  Once again, Tristate Gun Club will be participating in the annual Alabama Sports Festival.  For those not familiar with the Sports Festival, it was organized in 1982 to develop a grassroots Olympic-style competitions and expose athletes, volunteers and spectators of all ages, especially our youth, to Olympic sports and the overall Olympic experience with all of its tradition and ceremony.

  • • The first competition in 1983 was held in Auburn, Alabama and featured 300 athletes and four sports. In 2008, Alabama Sports Festival XXVI Programs showcased more than 6,000 athletes competing in 20 different Olympic-style sports at the State Games, and events hosted with the Alabama Public Housing Authorities, which target at-risk youth.  Four of our members, Ray Dillon, Norm Stellner, Tony Ely and Tom Iten will set up and run an Action Pistol event based on USPSA/IPSC rules.  Awards are provided by the Sports Festival in various categories.  The match will be held on the 20th of June at the Shelby County Sheriff Complex at 543 McDow Road, Columbiana, AL.  If your interested in attending, information can be found at http://www.alagames.com.

 REGULAR CLUB MEETING

Sharon Goding, our Secretary/Treasurer is taking a temporary leave of absence due to a family illness.  Please be patient as I try and get back in the game of doing the paper work.  Hopefully, Sharon will be back soon.

We had 29 people present at this months meeting.  7 of them are new members!  We now have 284 general members and 74 life members for a total of 358 members!  Our club continues to grow at a healthy pace.

FINANCIAL REPORT:   The up to date financial report is currently not available for me to report.  As you can see from the report below, May was not a very good month for match proceeds.  Many of us have talked about whether it’s the weather, price of ammo, availability of components……..  Whatever it is, I hope match participation will pick up in June.

OLD BUISNESS

1.  Ricky Fulford  gave a brief update on the training facility/building.  Still waiting for additional bids which hopefully will be in by the next club meeting.

2.      Cindy gave an update on the Friends of the NRA dinner and asked for support from the general membership.  Please see the updated info on the web site under FNRA tab.

3.      The club will have a table at the Dothan Gun Show over the 4th of July weekend.  While I know a lot of members go to the gun show and visit the table, we could sure use some help in actually manning the table.  This gives the public a chance to see support for the club and get a good first impression of the club.  Also, you can get free admission.

NEW BUISNESS

1.  Jim Edgington requested that the membership consider erecting a flagpole.  He had obtained an estimate on a 30 foot, one piece pole with a spot light for 24 hr operations.  Cost for the pole, light and flag would be around $1500 to $1700. After discussion on our current financial situation, Bob Lynch recommended that the project be put in the 5 year plan and be brought up again after the beginning of the new FY.  Vote to table was 11 Yes, 0 No, and 2 abstentions.

2.  As announced at the last meeting, Bob Lynch called for a vote to change Article I and II of the club constitution.  The changes were read and the changes were approved 22 Yes, 0 No, 0 abstentions.  The changes will be posted to the membership area of the web site.

TriState Gun Club is an NRA and CMP affiliated organization dedicated to the promotion of the shooting sports and the appreciation of America’s heritage of armed citizens. We do this by providing facilities for the legal, safe and proper use of firearms in an atmosphere of comradery and sportsmanship.

TriState Prospective members must attend one monthly club meeting held on our range on the 1 st Sunday of each month at 3:00 pm.  Annual dues are $150.  New member dues are prorated throughout the fiscal year. New members must have, or apply for, an NRA membership. NRA membership can be done through the club for $10 off the normal price of $35.

Applications and Information can be found at http://www.tristategunclub.org
