Training Facility/Class Room Discussion

At the club meeting today, Butch Bonds presented an update on information for the construction/erection of a multi-purpose metal building to be used for meetings, class room training and shooting related activities at the club.  The purpose of this post is to solicit comments by the general membership prior to a vote to proceed at the May membership meeting.   I will pin this post so it stays on top.

Re: Training Facility/Class Room Discussion

I think it's a great idea and would provide a place for training away from the ranges and noise of gunfire, meetings in inclement weather, etc.  Will it have a portable heater or window AC unit?  This would provide the ability for members to get out of the cold or hot elements for a little bit too but may not be possible if it runs up the electric bill too much.

Unfortunately due to sporadic weekend work schedules I haven't been available for the monthly Sunday afternoon club meetings/votes for a while now but as a member going on two years now, I'm proud of and glad to see the club is moving along very nicely with the constant upgrades to the rifle and pistol ranges and the current additional land purchase in the works.  And THANK YOU Mr. Greg Swim for all your upkeep/work on the ranges for the benefit of everyone.

On a side note, what will the additional land purchase be used for though?  I haven't heard or read anything concerning that, perhaps I missed it in a one of the monthly newsletters; all I remember is a meeting last year with a long heated discussion about creating a 200 or 300 yard rifle range and it would be too unsafe and too expensive to do it... ?

Re: Training Facility/Class Room Discussion

ThompMember,

I realize that it can be difficult to attent the club meetings, but that is where to get the best information.

The proposed Training Facility will be placed behind the 100 yd range in front of the existing latrines. The area is marked with stakes so you can get an idea of how big we're talking about when you next visit the range. Ideas are being tossed about as far as heating/cooling. There are two garage type doors situated on either side of the buildings length on the proposed building diagram. With those open and maybe a couple of large ventaltion fans, like those used in chicken houses, it should me habitable even in the heat of summer. There does seem to be some differences of opinion as to whether the floor should be concrete or wooden joists. Personally, I want to go with a poured concrete floor. The crawl space under a wooden floor would eventually rot and would make an instant home for unwanted critters and serpents!

The land we had hoped to aquire is situated to the left of the clay's range. It's about 11 acres and would have been used (for the time being) as a buffer. The problem is the owner. He has not returned the many calls made to him and seems to be in no hurry to sell. It was discussed at the last meeting and we voted to put the issue on the back burner for now.

I hope this brings you up to speed.

Bill

Thank you Sir for the additional info.  I did get some more info from this month's newsletter posted on the site as well.  Thanks again.

My thoughts as well.  I think that the concrete flooring would be ideal in the long run.
